About Us

We are Hannah Wilson & Laura Cullen aka your Flow Mentors.

We help women who are struggling to make sense of their health, nutrition, fitness and hormones by coaching them through manageable steps using our Nourish, Balance and Thrive principles.

Modern life has us on a constant stress overload and we are seeing an epidemic rising. You have the power to change how you respond to your stressors and we are going to help you to find that balance and feel healthier, more energetic and grow the confidence to take on any challenge that life throws your way.

▶️BUILD = restore, recovery, reverse diet, calorie surplus.
▶️BURN = physiological stress such as fat loss, calorie deficits, or heavy performance phase, high intensity and loads.
▶️BREAK = deload, rest days, diet breaks, refeeds.

🔈Becoming stuck in any of the part of the cycle, spending too long there or jumping in at the BURN point is a common mistake.

Changing perceptions and questioning what you believe to be helpful for your physiology and WHY begins by growing your relationship with food, with self, with exercise.

Strength training can improve hormone levels and reproductive function 💥

Lady legends 🗣Weight training has a much more powerful effect on hormone function than simply the increase in testosterone that men experience after a training session.

Building lean muscle mass across a programme with progressive overload improves the metabolism of estrogen in young women, which is noteworthy because a better elimination of estrogen means less cancer risk, improved brain health and body composition etc

Strength training also increases growth hormone IGF-1, both which correlate with leanness. It also leads to better regulation of the hormones related to hunger and energy use. It fights oxidative stress from cortisol and related tissue-degrading hormones that have the side effect of damaging reproductive health if they are persistently elevated as well.

🤯 Stress affects women’s metabolism, hindering fat loss ⁉️

Of course, stress affects fat loss for everyone, but it’s possible certain kinds of stress are more harmful to women than men.

Stress leads to persistent cortisol secretion, and cortisol’s primary function is to increase blood sugar ( bringing with it an insulin spike ) so you can have enough energy to get through a stressful situation.

When this becomes prolonged and chronic, the body turns the hormone pregnenolone, which is a precursor to estrogen and testosterone, into progesterone, which is then used to make cortisol and aldosterone. Together these hormones lead to greater fat storage and more fluid retention. Not only will you have more cortisol, but you will have lower levels of estrogen and testosterone.

Women with lower levels of testosterone than normal have a disadvantage when it comes to fat loss. Although elevated estrogen is also not beneficial for fat loss, low estrogen isn’t either because it inhibits the greater fat oxidation that women experience during exercise. The body is no longer working in harmony. Everything is out of whack and fat loss simply won’t happen.

⚓️ THE SOLUTION ⚓️

Find stress management strategies that work for you, whether it’s going out for a walk in nature, reading a book, yoga, cooking, baking, drawing, writing, massively reducing training intensity and high impact movements etc

Pay special attention to optimising BOTH your circadian rhythm ( 24 hour circadian clock) and Infradian rhythms ( the female system second body clock which reflects cycle length duration for example 28 days ) to better support the physical and mental functions of your body 👉🏻 hormone levels, body temperature, cognitive faculties, digestion, sleeping, immune resilience etc

Because when you adhere to both your rhythms lady legends you promote balance and optimal health. When you work against them, they become disrupted. This will increase stress and make fat loss much more difficult.
